Papers on Malta’s Political Economy
No. of Pages:
The inspiration of this book is the conviction that economics refers to people’s expectations and satisfactions. A proper application of economic thought and modelling guides analysts of social, economic and political phenomena in understanding the myriad complex personal interrelationships as manifested in everyday markets for goods and services. The sixteen essays in this book are grouped under four general headings: Values, Markets and the Social Contract; The Demographic Transition; Competition, Productivity and Costs ? Means to Wealth Creation; and, Taxation, Social Welfare Support and Income Distribution. They illustrate the relationship between an evolving economic thought and the demographic, social and political environment in the Maltese Islands in the past three decades.
